For a little chef

Of ik een koksmuts kon maken, vroeg mijn zusje. Het zoontje van een vriendin werd 3 jaar en helpt graag in de keuken. En ze kon nergens een leuke koksmuts vinden. Ik dook in mijn stoffenvoorraad en zocht twee stofjes uit voor een schort en muts. Ik gebruikte deze tutorial. Voor het schort gebruikte ik een patroon dat ik zelf al eens had getekend. Dit schort is wat korter (55 cm) en daardoor geschikt voor een kleine chefkok. Met behulp van wat freezer paper en textielverf voorzag ik het schort van een opdruk, volgens deze tutorial.

My sister asked if I could make a chef hat. The son of a friend of hers turned 3 and likes to help his mommy in the kitchen. A nice chef hat was hard to find. I dived into my stash and chose two fabrics for an apron and chef hat. I used this tutorial. I used a pattern I've drewn before. This one is shorter than the one in the turorial  (21,5 inch / 55 cm), and more suiteble for a little chef. With a little help of some freezer paper and textile paint I painted his name on the apron, using this tutorial.

Het neklint heeft knoopsgaten en aan de achterkant van het schort zit een knoopje. Zo kan het schort met de chef meegroeien.

The neck ribbon has button holes and on the back of the apron there is a button. This way the apron is able to grow with the chef. 

Ook de muts kan met de chef meegroeien, door dat de hoofdband verstelbaar is. Ideaal. Naar verluid was de chef heel blij met zijn schort en muts. Dat is toch altijd de kroon op je werk :)

 The hat is also able to grow with the chef, becouse of the adjustable headband. Ideal. Reportedly the chef was very happy with his apron and hat. This is always a crowning glory :)

From sweater sleeves to pants

Ook aan korte broeken heeft S een gebrek. Ik had er meteen een paar in m'n hoofd die ik zelf zou willen maken. Er lag al lang een sweater van Mr. DeKaWear op de recykleer stapel. Uit de mouwen kreeg ik nog net het broekje dat ik in m'n hoofd had.

Shorts are an other item missing in S's wardrobe. I had some shorts in mind which I would like to sew for him. On the recycle stack I had a sweater from Mr. DeKaWear. I just was able to sew the short I had in mind from the sleeves from this sweater.  

Ik wilde zo'n kort broekje met een boordstof rand rondom en aan de zijnaad. In m'n hoofd had ik het patroontje al getekend. Toen kwam ik in de bijlage van een oude Knippie het patroontje voor een korte meisjesshort tegen. Het patroon is eigenlijk bedoeld voor een short van canvas of jeans. Ik nam het voor- en achterpand over en de zakdelen. Ik ronde de hoeken aan de zijnaden van de panden af, en bedacht hoe mijn werkvolgorde moest worden. Daarna rekende ik uit wat de lengte van de tailleband moest zijn.

I wanted to sew a short with ribbing on the bottom and side. In my head I drew the pattern. When I was browsing trough an old Knippie I stumbled upon a pattern for a hot pants for girls. It's actualy a pattern for jeans or canvas. I drewed the front, back and pockets and rounded the corners of the front and back. And calculated the length for the waistband.  

De randen werkte ik af met boordstof van dezelfde sweater. Ik mat de lengte op die afgewerkt moest worden en nam hier 80% van. Resultaat is een schattige short, die ideaal is om in te spelen. Voor een lekkere dag aan het strand bijvoorbeeld.....

I finished the shorts with ribbing from the same sweater. I measured the length that had to be finished and cutted out ribbing at 80% of this length. The result: a cute short, ideal to play in. On a nice day at the beach, per example....
